Handy tip #1: try to prepare for cold & flu season in the fall before it hits. If it catches you off guard, there are many common household items that can offer some relief:

• aromatic herbs in your spice cabinet (thyme, rosemary, mint) can be used for face steams to help (temporarily) clear nasal passages;
• fresh squeezed, hot lemonade sweeted with honey-better yet, herbed honey-grated ginger and a pinch of cayenne to give extra warmth and 'soul' fire;
• chopped garlic in honey taken by the spoonful every 3-4 hours to help fight infection.
